Why Professional Family Photography Matters (Even in the Age of iPhone Photos)

I’ve said it before but I truly believe this when I say it. Photography and creativity aren’t just a job for me. It's part of my lifestyle.

When I capture moments, it’s never just about creating a photograph where someone looks perfect. It’s about capturing who you are right now, so you can look back on it years from now and remember exactly what life felt like in this season.

The best way I can describe this is through my own experience.

I have a 20 month old son, Theo. I will say he takes up the majority of my iCloud storage. He’s definitely my main model - besides my husband Corey and our dog Wrigley. I’m so grateful I can capture him and all his shenanigans directly from my easily accessible iPhone when any monumental moment is happening quickly. Those little everyday moment matter so much.

But if you walk around my home, the photographs you see aren’t ones that I’ve taken on my iPhone, their ones that I took with one of my professional or film cameras.

The professional quality photos are the ones that were captured with intentionality, value and story behind it.

That’s exactly what I want for every client who books with Crowley Photography.

When we work together, we’re not just taking photos. We’re capturing authentic, intentional moments, the kind you’ll print, frame, and display in your home. The kind you won’t have to scroll through thousands of photos on your phone to find years later. These images carry weight because they’re moments you invested in with your time, your emotions, and your story.

Even when I photograph my own son, I’m always looking for the moments that show exactly who he is right now, the little things that make up this season of his life.

And the beautiful thing is, those moments don’t have to be big or elaborate.

Right now, one of Theo’s favorite things in the world is simply being outside. Running through the park. Exploring nature. Digging in the sand. Just being a curious little boy.

So with my last roll of 35mm film, that’s exactly what I captured. The things he loves most.

These photographs aren’t just for me as his mom. They’re for him someday. For his future spouse, his children, and maybe even his grandchildren.

Because that’s the true power of photographs.

They allow the people who come after us to see what life looked like, what joy felt like, and who we were in the middle of it all.

And that’s exactly why professional family photography matters.
